Top 10 NES games

May 13, 2026View on X
  1. 1

The greatest game ever made. Not just on the NES, but of all time.

    More
The world map, the suits, and the sheer volume of secrets changed the industry forever. If you think any other game deserves this spot, you’re just trying to be different for the sake of it.
  2. 2

Real gamers appreciate a puzzle. Lolo proves that you don't need a gun or a sword to have a "hardcore" experience.

    More
It’s a relentless logic trap that makes you feel like a genius for five seconds before the next room humbles you again. HAL Laboratory at its absolute finest.
  3. 3

This is the best game you never played.

    More
It combines platforming with an actual shop system and a dog companion that actually helps you. The visuals were years ahead of 1990, and the difficulty curve is exactly how games should be balanced.
  4. 4

The Konami Code is for people who can't handle a real challenge.

    More
Playing Contra with the standard three lives is the only way to experience the pure adrenaline of the jungle. It’s the peak of 8-bit action, and nothing in the last thirty years has topped the feel of the Spread gun.
  5. 5

Hudson Soft took the Wonder Boy formula and made it a punishing test of endurance.

    More
Managing your hunger meter while dodging snails is more stressful than any modern survival horror game. It’s colorful, bright, and will absolutely break your spirit.
  6. 6

The controls are polarizing because they require a brain.

    More
Having buttons mapped to the "left" and "right" attacks instead of "punch" and "kick" is brilliant design. The cyclone kick is the most rewarding move in the beat-em-up genre, period.
  7. 7

    Unfair? Yes.

    More
Chaotic? Absolutely. But LJN’s X-Men is better than the "hidden gem" YouTubers want you to believe. If you couldn't beat it, you just didn't understand the character swap mechanic. It’s a brutal, unforgiving gauntlet that rewards persistence over luck.
  8. 8
    Duck Hunt Post

The Zapper is the greatest peripheral ever made, and this game is the ultimate test of reflex.

    More
We all tried to shoot that laughing dog, but the real tension was hitting those clay pigeons on Round 15. It’s pure, tactile arcade energy that modern VR still can't replicate.
  9. 9

Stop calling it a "reskin" of Doki Doki Panic. This is the most experimental and creative Mario title in the entire 8-bit library.

    More
Picking up enemies and throwing them is more satisfying than jumping on heads, and playing as Princess Peach was the original "easy mode" before it was cool.
  10. 10

Most arcade ports on the NES were compromised, but Popeye is pixel-perfect.

    More
It’s a masterclass in high-score chasing that requires more strategy than half the "open world" games released today. If you can't appreciate the perfection of the spinach mechanic, you aren't a real gamer.

If you didn’t grow up with a gray box connected to a tube TV via an RF adapter, you missed the era where games were actually finished at launch. Most of these "modern classics" wouldn't survive five minutes in 1988. Here is the definitive, no-filler Top 10 for the NES.
How it closed Post
The NES wasn't just a console, it was the standard. We didn't have patches, we didn't have DLC, and we didn't have "narrative-driven" walking simulators. We had 8 bits of pure, unfiltered gameplay. Every modern "masterpiece" is just standing on the shoulders of these giants.

Top 10 SNES games

May 18, 2026Current listView on X
  1. 1

The ultimate pack-in cartridge. It didn't waste your time with sprawling open worlds or cinematic tutorials.

    More
You turned on the console and were immediately playing the game. Thirty-five years later, the physics are strictly muscle memory.
  2. 2

This was the exact moment the arcade effectively moved into the living room.

    More
It was a flawless translation of the biggest cultural phenomenon on the planet. You didn't have to stack quarters on a cabinet anymore. The mechanics were so perfectly balanced that 'loser passes the controller' became the undisputed law of the house for an entire generation.
  3. 3

Midway forced a massive arcade cabinet into a plastic cartridge and ended friendships.

    More
Hearing the SNES sound chip actually scream "Boomshakalaka!" or "He's on fire!" while you shoved your friend to the floor and shattered the glass backboard was the absolute peak of 90s competitive friction.
  4. 4

The Super FX 2 chip pushed the hardware until it almost broke, but the real achievement is the art design.

    More
Nintendo disguised one of the most mechanically demanding platformers ever made behind a flawless hand-drawn pastel coloring book aesthetic. It abandoned the standard run and jump blueprint for massive vertical exploration and exact egg throwing physics.
  5. 5

The Genesis version gets all the attention, but this beat 'em up is significantly meaner.

    More
Grabbing two clowns by the skull and physically smashing them into the concrete background never gets old. You actually feel the physical weight of the combat.
  6. 6

This practically invented the kart racing genre and immediately destroyed friendships.

    More
It is brutally cheap, the rubber band AI is completely out of control, and hitting a perfectly timed green shell on Rainbow Road is still the most satisfying feeling on the system.
  7. 7

A Data East arcade port held together by duct tape.

    More
The audio compression is laughable and the hitboxes make zero sense. But frantically mashing buttons while the console struggles to process Iron Man screaming is the exact definition of couch co-op.
  8. 8

Konami in the 90s was untouchable.

    More
They took a cartoon license and gave it the exact same mechanical precision as Castlevania. That football level is notoriously harder than it has any right to be. Pure linear platforming perfection.
  9. 9

LJN usually made unplayable garbage. They accidentally made a masterpiece here.

    More
It actively hated the player, but grinding through the brutal difficulty and comic book cutscenes was an absolute staple of weekend Blockbuster rentals.
  10. 10

Nobody talks about this one because the premise is completely insane.

    More
EA built a custom engine just to let you throw basketballs at mutant eyeballs. It sounds absurd, but the hit detection is incredibly tight and the difficulty is violently unforgiving.

Every SNES top 10 list on the internet is identical. People just parrot Chrono Trigger and EarthBound because it is the safe, regurgitated internet consensus. The 16-bit era was not about reading dialogue boxes for 80 hours. It was about rented cartridges, arcade ports, and raw muscle memory. Here is the actual Top 10 best Super Nintendo games. Top 10🧵⤵️
How it closed Post
The defining games of the 16-bit era didn't need sprawling maps or eighty-hour save files. They were built on raw mechanics, zero forgiveness, and the pressure of returning a cartridge by Sunday night. If your top 10 list is entirely made up of RPGs, you didn't actually play the SNES. You just read it.

Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World Post

    THE GOD CARTRIDGE.

    More
The single greatest value proposition in the history of entertainment. The entire NES Mario legacy upgraded to 16-bit, PLUS the best launch title ever made. If you only owned this one game, you won the generation.
  2. 2

A crayon-drawn miracle. Nintendo took the perfect Mario formula and somehow made it more charming, more challenging, and more beautiful. It hasn't aged a single day in 30 years. Absolute platforming perfection.

  3. 3

The Alpha and the Omega. We literally sanded our fingerprints off playing this. We sacrificed layers of skin to the D-Pad gods just to throw a Sonic Boom.

    More
This wasn't a game; it was a religion. It destroyed thumbs. It shattered controllers. It is the raw DNA of violence.
  4. 4
    RoboCop vs. The Terminator Post

You didn't play this game; you survived it.

    More
RoboCop moved like a tank. He felt heavy. The enemies were bullet sponges that shattered into scrap metal when you finally dropped them. It was a constant, industrial grind of plasma and explosions. No finesse. No dodging. Just holding the fire button down and walking forward until everything on screen was dead.
  5. 5

The deepest cut on the list. The GOAT fighting robot spiders in the Chicago sewers using magical basketballs while saving fellow NBA players. It is peak 90s insanity.

    More
If you missed this weird, wonderful fever dream, your childhood was incomplete.
  6. 6

    "DO A BARREL ROLL!"

    More
The Super FX chip wasn't hardware; it was alien technology welded into a plastic cart. We were playing a 3D space opera on a 2D system. It looked like folded paper, it sounded like gibberish robots, and it played like a dream. If you didn't instinctively hit L or R when the screen flashed red, you didn't survive.
  7. 7

The CPU cheated. We all know it. Bowser had infinite fireballs. Mario popped a Star the second you passed him. It was completely unfair.

    More
But the driving was pure. You didn't just steer; you hopped. You had to rhythmically smash that shoulder button to drift around Ghost Valley without hitting the void. Hitting a moving target with a Green Shell in this game is still the hardest shot in gaming history.
  8. 8

    "BOOMSHAKALAKA!"

    More
You can hear that text. This game was 50% basketball and 50% soundboard. The announcer was screaming, the net was sizzling, and the crowd was losing its mind. There were no fouls. There was just the Turbo button and the race to get "On Fire" so you could goaltend without consequence. The loudest game on the SNES.
  9. 9
    Shaq Fu Post

YES. I SAID IT. Put down your pitchforks. This game is a misunderstood masterpiece of bizarre 90s celebrity culture. Shaq fighting mummies in another dimension? It makes no sense and that's why it RULES. I will defend this cartridge with my life.

  10. 10

The coolest athlete on the planet got the coolest game on the system.

    More
Before this, baseball games were tiny sprites viewed from space. Here, the camera was right behind the plate. You could actually read the pitch. Striking out wasn't just a failure; it was a performance. Watching your player snap the bat over his knee in anger is still the best animation on the SNES.

Top 10 Sega Genesis games

May 20, 2026View on X
  1. 1

The absolute ceiling of 16-bit speed and level design.

    More
Everything that came after this was just a desperate attempt to recreate it.
  2. 2

    The definitive console port.

    More
Nintendo sanitized their hardware, but the Genesis layout made the arcade violence immediate, raw, and exact.
  3. 3

    Peak physical media.

    More
The sheer volume of on screen carnage and explosion animations has never been properly replicated in sanitized modern shooters.
  4. 4

The soundtrack alone justifies owning the physical cartridge.

    More
Surviving the later stages required mechanical perfection. Modern developers are terrified of frustrating the player like this.
  5. 5

    Stripped down arcade shooting.

    More
Starting as a standard beat cop and earning the cyber suit through pure survival is a masterclass in earned power scaling.
  6. 6

The Sega hardware was perfectly optimized for this aesthetic.

    More
It is gritty, unforgiving, and forces you to rely on precise weapon management just to survive.
  7. 7

    Pure punishing side-scrolling chaos.

    More
The Jesper Kyd soundtrack pushes the audio chip to its mechanical limit. The brutal difficulty curve makes modern titles look like tutorials.
  8. 8

A technical masterpiece that pushed the Genesis hardware to its absolute breaking point.

    More
The graphics rival early 32-bit games and the difficulty is unapologetically brutal.
  9. 9

    The ultimate launch-window statement piece.

    More
It didn't rely on complex strategy. It was built on pure, heavy arcade friction, immediate power scaling, and unapologetic 16-bit body horror.
  10. 10

Nintendo fans obsess over Turtles in Time.

    More
The reality is Hyperstone Heist plays significantly faster, has more aggressive enemy AI, and requires actual reflexes instead of just corner trapping.

"Genesis does what Nintendon't" wasn't just a marketing slogan. It was an objective fact. While Nintendo was busy sanitizing its ecosystem, Sega was building hardware exclusively for raw speed and unapologetic arcade violence. If your 16-bit collection doesn't reflect that, you bought the wrong console. These are the 10 best Sega Genesis titles.🧵⬇️

People constantly debate the best Genesis games by just repeating the same predictable titles we all played for five minutes at a friend's house. The games that actually define the console are the ones built on raw arcade friction, punishing momentum, and the absolute requirement to master the mechanics. These ten cartridges aren't just a nostalgic ranking. They are the definitive reason the Sega hardware existed in the first place.

Top 10 N64 games

May 23, 2026View on X
  1. 1

The best game on the N64 doesn't have a single enemy in it.

    More
In 1996 nobody had seen water move like this on a home console. The first time you raced, the waves shoved your ski around so convincingly it almost felt broken. Nothing on the PS1 came close. Nothing else on the N64 did either. No spectacle, no gimmick. Just the hardware doing something genuinely new.
  2. 2

Smarter enemies than Goldeneye, more weapons, a bigger campaign, and bots so you didn't need three friends on the couch.

    More
It came out two years later and quietly beat Goldeneye at the exact thing Goldeneye is worshipped for. Only one game on this list beats it.
  3. 3

Better than the movie. And I'll say the thing nobody wants to: it's the best Star Wars game ever made.

    More
The speed felt genuinely dangerous, the tracks were trying to kill you, and I'd sink entire afternoons into upgrading a pod racer for a podrace that lasted four minutes. People fight me on this constantly.
  4. 4

People don't take snowboarding games seriously so this one just gets skipped entirely.

    More
The physics were real, the courses actually demanded something from you, and it looked incredible for the time. I put more hours into this than I'd ever admit publicly.
  5. 5

    Okay. Number 5.

    More
Yeah it mattered. It made the console shooter a real thing and a movie tie-in had no right being that good. I'm not arguing any of that. But mattering and being the best game on the system are two different things, and four games here clear it.
  6. 6

Launched alongside the console and everyone forgot it existed by Christmas.

    More
No enemies, nothing to shoot, just Nintendo figuring out how to move through 3D space before anyone else had even solved the camera. I'll say it: as a launch game it holds up better than Mario 64, and that one always gets people.
  7. 7

Everyone remembers Killer Instinct on SNES. Almost nobody remembers Gold even existed.

    More
It was the arcade sequel, KI2, brought home nearly intact, and the N64 pulled it off better than a cartridge had any right to. Full announcer, the combo system intact, none of it watered down. It's the best fighting game on the console and it isn't close.
  8. 8

Arcade racing on this console basically starts and ends with Rush.

    More
The tracks were ridiculous, there were shortcuts hidden in spots you'd only find by accident, and the crashes were the entire point. Every modern racing game took that out and decided it was an improvement. It wasn't.
  9. 9

Third person, time travel, and weirdly funny in a way the PC games never were.

    More
Came out in 1999, sold to about nine people, and disappeared. I think it's better than half the shooters that get brought up in these threads.
  10. 10

Everyone acts like Goldeneye was the only multiplayer game on the N64. It wasn't.

    More
Turok: Rage Wars was four player and honestly meaner and faster than anything Rare did, it just had the worst possible timing, dropping right when Goldeneye was still the only thing anyone wanted to play at a sleepover. Nobody gave it a chance.

My top 10 N64 games. And Goldeneye isn't in the top three. It's at 5. Four games beat it and I'll defend every one. Most "Top 10" lists are the same four Nintendo first-party titles everyone copied off a 1999 GameFAQs thread and never thought about again. Mine isn't that. Top 10 N64 Games🕹️⬇️

N64 games, 20 through 11

June 9, 2026View on X
  1. 11

The game that taught every 3D title how to move.

    More
I will never argue its importance. But importance and fun aren't the same thing, and I reach for a dozen other carts before this one. Historic. Not my number one.
  2. 12

    Here it is.

    More
A good game. A genuinely good game. Not the greatest of all time. Not even my favorite on the console. Zelda is the most overrated name in gaming, and this is exhibit A. Good. Just not untouchable.
  3. 13

    Do a barrel roll.

    More
The rumble pak debuted here. So did voice acting I can still quote cold. Tight, replayable, branching paths that begged a second run. On rails and better for it.
  4. 14

The kart game with a campaign.

    More
Planes, hovercrafts, a real adventure mode, and a boss named Wizpig living rent free in my head. Rare at full strength. The single player Mario Kart never bothered to build.
  5. 15

    The ceiling.

    More
Every lesson the AKI engine learned, perfected. A create a wrestler so deep it became its own hobby. Twenty five years later people still mod this cart. Best wrestling game ever made. Not up for debate.
  6. 16

Rumble pak in hand, X-wing on screen.

    More
Death Star runs and Hoth fantasies finally playable in your living room. Rough around the edges today. Pure adrenaline then. The Star Wars game the N64 deserved.
  7. 17

Anti-grav racing at speeds the N64 had no business hitting.

    More
Weapons, tunnels, a sense of velocity that melted the framerate and my eyes right along with it. I put more hours into this than Mario Kart. By a lot. Better game. I said what I said.
  8. 18

    I know.

    More
Four player split screen built a generation of friendships, and Block Fort battle mode is untouchable. But the single player bored me, and the blue shell aged like milk. Loved by everyone. Ranked here by me.
  9. 19

The night the AKI engine finally crossed over to the WWF.

    More
WCW hoarded that magic for two years. World Tour. Revenge. Then the grappling system, the create modes, and a career that actually mattered all landed in a WWF cart. The blueprint. Not the masterpiece.
  10. 20

    The expansion pak game.

    More
Five characters, a hundred kinds of collectible, and a coconut launcher. Ambitious to a fault. I respect the scope more than I enjoyed the grind.

Nintendo Direct day. No better time to finish my N64 ranking. The top 10 is locked. Here's 20 through 11. And this is where it gets uncomfortable, because some of the most worshipped carts Nintendo ever shipped never cracked my top 10. Ocarina is in here. So is Mario Kart. Reputation didn't get a vote. Time played did.
How it closed Post
That's 20 through 11. Here's the logic, since it always comes up. I don't rank by review scores. I don't rank by what's "important." I rank by the carts I kept coming back to. Hours in the controller. Not headlines. That's why Extreme-G beats Mario Kart. That's why Ocarina is good and not gospel. That's why a wrestling game outranks Donkey Kong 64 and Rogue Squadron. Reputation is borrowed. Time played is earned.

Top 10 PS1 games

May 21, 2026View on X
  1. 1

The undisputed peak of the generation.

    More
It didn't just introduce cinematic stealth, it weaponized the physical limitations of the hardware to build tension. The linear pacing, unmatched voice acting, and tactile friction remain completely flawless.
  2. 2

The absolute pinnacle of 3D fighting.

    More
It forced the hardware to deliver fluid, 60 frames-per-second mechanical perfection at a time when most developers were still struggling to render basic, jagged polygons. It is pure combat refinement.
  3. 3

The ultimate test of design over convention, earning its spot on the podium.

    More
It successfully transitioned a 2D icon into a fully realized 3D world with tight action and linear exploration, completely outpacing the passive, slow design of its contemporaries.
  4. 4

Square's actual masterpiece on the system.

    More
A tightly paced, 10 hour cinematic experience that respects your time and delivers vastly more storytelling impact in a single weekend than massive, sprawling, bloated 80-hour games can manage across multiple discs.
  5. 5

The absolute peak of vehicular combat, breaking into the top five on pure mechanical execution.

    More
It perfectly captures the raw, unfiltered arcade energy of the mid-90s. The brilliant level design and tight physical controls made it a multiplayer essential that has never been duplicated.
  6. 6

The definitive racing simulator that changed the entire industry.

    More
Its technical precision, vehicle weight physics, and massive car roster established a benchmark that elevated the PlayStation's reputation from a mere toy to a mature, sophisticated machine.
  7. 7

The undisputed champion of the era's arcade style wrestling games.

    More
Yuke's packed incredible speed, fluid animations, and a massive roster into a highly addictive gameplay loop that captured the exact unhinged energy of the late-90s boom period without any unnecessary filler.
  8. 8

A massive cultural milestone with legendary production values, but the truth is the turn-based combat and text-heavy pacing drag it down.

    More
It barely cracks the top eight because pure action-mechanics and physical responsiveness beat out menu-mashing every single time.
  9. 9

A masterclass in tactical shooting and linear level design that completely outpaces the slower games of the era.

    More
The reliance on gadgets, aggressive target locking, and fast-paced infiltration kept players fully locked into the physical friction of late-90s action.
  10. 10

While visually impressive for a late-stage title releasing the same year as the PS2, it represents the absolute extreme end of slow, turn-based excess.

    More
On a platform whose real legacy was built on speed and tight action, its glacial combat pacing barely earns it a spot on the board.

Most people rank PS1 games based on pure, unearned nostalgia, pristine jewel case counts, or 30 year old review scores from magazines that don't hold up today. They build these safe, predictable top 10 lists that look exactly the same because they are afraid to challenge the established consensus. This list is going to completely break the brains of traditional purists who think critical acclaim equals elite design, but it is the only accurate evaluation of what actually made this hardware legendary. Top 5 GameCube games

September 14, 2026View on X
  1. 1

Remaking Metroid into a first person shooter was a no brainer. I bought my GameCube in 2003 and this was the game that blew me away, and it still holds up better than almost anything else from that decade.

    More
The graphics felt ahead of its time. Seeing Samus' reflection in the visor was unreal. The overall gameplay was smooth and addictively fun to play. This is the best game on the GameCube.
  2. 2

This is the last game Rare made for Nintendo before Microsoft bought the studio.

    More
It's better than Wind Waker and Super Mario Sunshine and it's not particularly close. I purchased this game with my GameCube in 2003 and immediately liked this Star Fox more than the N64 game.
  3. 3

The second best Mario Kart ever made, behind Super Mario Kart and ahead of Mario Kart 64.

    More
Two characters on one kart with their own special items was the only real change the series has ever made to its own formula. Everything about this game worked and Nintendo walked away from it.
  4. 4

This is Metal Gear Solid from 1998 rebuilt in the engine Sons of Liberty ran on, and the only place you could play it was a Nintendo console.

    More
Everybody who hates this game hates it for the same two things. The cutscenes run long and Snake can shoot while he's moving. Neither one bothered me. I've played both versions and this one is fantastic.
  5. 5

This is the game you put on when four people were over and everyone wanted in on the action.

    More
Smash has had a lot of sequels since then and none of them are better than this one. It sits at fifth because I've spent more time with the four games above it.

Everybody has a console they defend to the death. The Nintendo GameCube is the one I defend like it's my family. This console always gets ranked behind the PS2 and the Xbox. It's one of my personal favorites and I've had way more fun on this console than I did on the PS2, which is just a glorified DVD player. Here's the Top 5 GameCube games. There's no Mario and no Zelda on this list. Super Mario Sunshine built the whole game around Mario having a water pack and thought that was a good idea. Nintendo decided Link should look like a cartoon and then made you sail for half of the game in Wind Waker. Both of those franchises fell off hard this generation. Here are the 5 games that carried the console.

  1. 1

The reason you remember the original Xbox at all.

    More
Not the campaign, the nights. Xbox Live started here, and so did every trash talked match and every friendship that ended over a betrayal on Lockout. The single most important console game of its generation and it isn't close.
  2. 2

    Above Halo: Combat Evolved.

    More
Patience as a weapon. This is the game that proved Xbox could do more than run and gun, that the most tense thing on the system was sitting in the dark waiting for a guard to turn around.
  3. 3

The best Star Wars story that never touched a movie screen.

    More
A turn-based RPG on a console built for shooters had no business being this good, and the twist still hits harder than anything the films managed in the same era.
  4. 4

Fourth. I said what I said.

It proved a console shooter could work, then its own sequel did everything it did and built a community on top of it. History remembers it as the launch that mattered. It's still the fourth best game on its own console.
  5. 5

Made you afraid of the dark again and everyone whined about the flashlight instead of admitting they were scared.

    More
The people who actually finished it never forgot it. The people who complained never got past the first lab.
  6. 6

    The ambitious swing nobody remembers.

    More
A flawed, gorgeous mess that aimed higher than games with triple its budget. It reached for something most games never even attempt, and it landing at six over the consensus favorites is intentional.
  7. 7

The best racing game on the system and it isn't a debate. Kudos chasing was an addiction before anyone had a word for it.

    More
Forza gets the legacy. PGR2 had the soul.
  8. 8

The Bond shooter that actually delivered.

    More
It lifted the GoldenEye blueprint and didn't embarrass it, which is more than almost every licensed game of its era can say. Better than half the "serious" shooters people put on these lists.
  9. 9

Stomping through a building never stopped being satisfying.

    More
One of the first games that made Xbox Live feel like the entire point of owning the console instead of a bonus feature. Ignored by too many back then, completely forgotten today. Criminal on both fronts.
  10. 10

Yes. This, and not the other co-op game everyone defaults to.

    More
Four-player couch co-op with the DC roster, and it earned its spot. I stand by it.

That is the list. If you are looking for Morrowind or Half-Life 2, you missed the point of the original hardware. Pandora Tomorrow takes the stealth crown, Advent Rising deserved its sequel, and Halo 2 is the single reason we remember the console today.

Top 10 greatest games of all time

May 15, 2026View on X
  1. 1

It didn't just define platforming; it wrote the absolute rulebook.

    More
The physics, the world map secrets, and the sheer variety of level design created a standard that modern developers are still failing to replicate.
  2. 2

The encounter design in the Silent Cartographer alone is better than most entire modern campaigns.

    More
It proved a console shooter could deliver a sweeping narrative while keeping the combat loop perfectly paced.
  3. 3

Exploring the ruins of Kattelox Island gave us a living, breathing 3D world with upgrade mechanics that felt genuinely rewarding.

    More
It was a massive departure for the franchise that completely nailed the execution.
  4. 4

Pure, distilled arcade action brought to the living room.

    More
It doesn't hold your hand or let you rely on a forgiving checkpoint system. You either memorize the enemy patterns and master the spread gun, or you get a game over.
  5. 5

Taking the flawless foundation of its predecessor and expanding it with branching paths and cape feather physics.

    More
It is the absolute pinnacle of 16-bit platforming and the gold standard for launch titles.
  6. 6

It bridged the gap between cinema and gaming without ever forgetting it was a game.

    More
The tactical espionage action and the pacing of the Shadow Moses incident have never been matched.
  7. 7

The SNES version is a masterclass in how to handle a movie tie-in.

    More
It took the core mechanics of a traditional beat-em-up, layered it with the brutal aesthetic of the film, and gave us the best brawler of the era.
  8. 8

The sense of blistering speed and the risk-reward system of boosting until your engines caught fire made this an absolute standout.

    More
Earning money to upgrade your pod actually required skill on the track.
  9. 9

It didn't just rely on Mode 7 graphics to impress us; it invented the entire kart racing genre.

    More
Hitting a perfect drift on Ghost Valley or Rainbow Road still requires absolute mechanical precision today.
  10. 10

Sega built a physics system entirely based on momentum and verticality.

    More
The original hardware handled the sheer speed flawlessly, creating an experience that relies purely on reflexes instead of just level memorization.

The Zelda games I own, ranked

September 8, 2026View on X
  1. 1

Zelda II is the only game in this series that ever took a real risk.

    More
Nintendo had a massive hit and then turned the whole thing sideways with side scrolling, experience points, and a difficulty curve that runs people off, and they never had the nerve to try anything like it again. It's better than Ocarina of Time, and most of the people who put it last quit at Death Mountain.
  2. 2

Same Hyrule as A Link to the Past, 22 years later.

    More
Ravio rents you the entire item list at the start, so the dungeons open in whatever order you want them. Best Zelda Nintendo has made since the 90s.
  3. 3

    The one that started it.

    More
Empty inventory, an overworld you can walk in any direction, and nine dungeons you have to find yourself. Nothing tells you where to go, and that's the whole game.
  4. 4

Same engine, darker game, and a far more entertaining one.

    More
That moon coming down is straight up nightmare fuel and there's nothing else in the series that ever tried anything like it. This is the better Nintendo 64 Zelda and it isn't particularly close.
  5. 5

I rented this from Blockbuster right after it came out and kept it the whole week, and seeing Link running around a 3D world was unlike anything else on the system at the time.

    More
Then it got boring. It was fun in 1998, and it has not aged well at all.
  6. 6

This is the prettiest game on the list and one of the slowest games I've played.

    More
Everything takes forever, and by the time I was climbing another wall in the rain waiting for stamina to come back I stopped caring where I was going. Beautiful world, and I was bored inside it.
  7. 7

Capcom made this one, not Nintendo.

    More
It's a full Zelda squeezed onto a Game Boy Color cart, with a rod that swaps the world between the four seasons to open up paths. Good game, smallest one here.

The full post
Star Fox 64 is not the best Star Fox game. I was talking about it with a coworker today who swears it's the best one. The SNES original is the best one made. I rented it from Blockbuster in the early 90s and nothing else on the Super Nintendo looked like that. Star Fox Adventures is my favorite. Rare's last Nintendo game and people still won't forgive it for not being an on rails shooter. Star Fox 64 is third.

Top 10 Batman games

June 23, 2026View on X
  1. 1

    The peak.

    More
Open Gotham, the deepest villain roster in any Batman game, not a wasted hour in it. Everything Asylum proved could work, with a whole city to prove it in. Nothing has touched it since.
  2. 2

The one that proved a great Batman game was even

    More
possible. Tightest of the series, no filler, no open world to pad the runtime. The retro classics had heart. This had everything.
  3. 3

Konami took a Tim Burton movie and built a brawler that stands next to Turtles in Time.

    More
Tight, mean, stacked with moves. A licensed SNES beat-em-up beating two Arkham games is exactly the hill I'm dying on.
  4. 4

The wall jump. The soundtrack. The blue suit nobody

    More
asked for and nobody forgot. Sunsoft turned a movie tie-in into one of the best action games on the NES. Licensed games were not supposed to be this good.
  5. 5

The best Batman has ever looked, dragged into a brawl by a tank.

    More
Pull the Batmobile out and this is top-two Arkham. It lands at five because two 16-bit games did more with less. That's not a knock. That's the bar.
  6. 6

A run-and-gun that doubles as a technical showcase.

    More
The soundtrack is one of the best on the system and the difficulty is flat out punishing. Proof the Genesis had real muscle when the right team showed up.
  7. 7
Batman: The Brave and the Bold (Wii) Post

A WayForward co-op brawler nobody remembers and

    More
everybody should. Hand-drawn, fast, built for two on a couch. It got buried under a console nobody took seriously for this kind of game. Their loss.
  8. 8

    Sunsoft's follow-up nobody talks about.

    More
Bigger and flashier than the NES games, with color and scale the 8-bit hardware couldn't touch. It never hit the same highs, but it swung for them.
  9. 9

Built on the animated series, the only Batman that ever truly mattered.

    More
The game itself is a competent licensed brawler and nothing more. It rides this high on the strength of the source material alone.
  10. 10

The Arkham game everyone writes off because Rocksteady didn't make it. Then they go finish it again every couple years.

    More
Best Joker writing in the series, stuck at the bottom of a list it could headline anywhere else. Last place in this franchise is still a good game.

Top 10 X-Men action games

September 27, 2026View on X
  1. 1

Apocalypse is a big enough threat that Magneto and the Brotherhood join the X-Men to fight him, which puts Sabretooth, Juggernaut and Scarlet Witch on the same team as Wolverine and Storm.

    More
The roster is huge, and up to four people can play the whole thing together.
  2. 2

You take four X-Men into every mission and swap between them whenever you want, all the way from Magma's first day at the mansion to a war with Magneto and the Brotherhood.

    More
The story and the ambiance are what did it for me.
  3. 3
    X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Xbox 360/PS3 (2009) Post

Hugh Jackman voices Logan in the Uncaged Edition, the version with all the gore left in.

    More
When he takes enough damage you can see down to the adamantium, then watch it all grow back. Still a better game than Insomniac's Wolverine.
  4. 4

Seven playable characters, and Magneto is one of them, which almost never happened in an X-Men game back then.

    More
Every character has their own moves and their own way through the levels, all of it up against the Phalanx.
  5. 5

Wolverine, Cyclops, Gambit and Nightcrawler all play differently, and you can call in Storm, Iceman, Rogue, Archangel or Jean Grey when you need help.

    More
It's also the game that told you to reset the computer and meant the actual reset button on your Genesis.
  6. 6

Capcom made this side-scroller in 1994, and every character in it moves and attacks completely differently.

    More
Cyclops, Wolverine, Psylocke, Beast and Gambit each get their own opening stage before the team heads into Genosha and on to Magneto.
  7. 7

Mark Hamill voices Wolverine and Patrick Stewart is back as Professor X, in a story that goes all the way back to Weapon X and the day Logan got his adamantium.

    More
The stealth sections and the berserker rage give it a lot more to do than slash through rooms.
  8. 8

Arcade traps Spider-Man, Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm and Gambit inside Murderworld, where every one of them gets their own stages built around their powers.

    More
It's brutally hard, and the soundtrack from Tim and Geoff Follin gets talked about more than the game does.
  9. 9

Acclaim gave Wolverine his own game with nobody else from the team along for it, hunting for answers about his past with a healing factor that refills his health on its own.

    More
It gets left off almost every X-Men list anyone makes.
  10. 10

This is where my love for X-Men started.

    More
LJN put Wolverine, Storm, Cyclops, Colossus, Iceman and Nightcrawler on one cartridge, with two players able to team up at the same time.

Top 10 superhero games

June 4, 2026View on X
  1. 1

Not a debate. Not a conversation.

    More
Every superhero game released after 2011 gets measured against this one. Most don't survive the comparison. The combat. The world. The writing. The villains. One of the best video games ever made.
  2. 2

20+ playable heroes. Co-op that made you call your friends.

    More
Nobody makes superhero games like this anymore and the genre is worse for it. Every modern superhero game is a solo cinematic experience. Ultimate Alliance was a party. We lost something when this era ended.
  3. 3

Not the best superhero game ever made. Not even close.

    More
But it might be the most fun. The writing is sharp. The self-awareness works. It commits completely to what it is and never apologizes for it. A game that knew exactly what it was. Rare.
  4. 4
    Batman Begins (2005) Post

A movie tie-in has zero business being this good.

    More
Someone understood Batman as a predator and built accordingly. The fear mechanic was ahead of its time. Arkham gets the credit. Begins did it first.
  5. 5

Technically brilliant. Visually stunning. The swinging finally felt right.

    More
So why is it only 5? Because polished isn't the same as memorable. I finished it. I respected it. I didn't fall in love with it. That gap is the difference between 5 and 1.
  6. 6
    Spider-Man & Venom: Maximum Carnage (1994) Post

The red cartridge alone deserves a spot on the list.

    More
But the game backs it up. Relentless. Hard. Unapologetic. Peak 16-bit superhero energy. Nobody was doing it better on that hardware.
  7. 7

    Go ahead. Say it.

    More
I know what you're thinking. And you're not entirely wrong. But sit down with this game and actually play it. The combat works. The roster delivers. It does exactly what it sets out to do. Underrated. Intentionally placed here.
  8. 8
X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse (2005) Post

The best Marvel action RPG ever made.

    More
Massive roster. Co-op that actually worked. A story that respected the source material. The fact that nobody makes games like this anymore is one of gaming's great unsolved crimes.
  9. 9
Captain America and the Avengers (1992) Post

Four playable characters. Co-op beat-em-up that held up better than most of what came after it.

    More
Cap felt like Cap. The roster felt earned. The 16-bit era understood the assignment on this one.
  10. 10

Nobody talks about this game anymore and that's a problem.

    More
Wolverine actually felt dangerous. The stealth mechanics worked. The story respected the character. It got buried under better marketing for worse games. Forgotten. Shouldn't be.

Top 10 Star Wars games

June 6, 2026View on X
  1. 1

More than 20 tracks, engines you nurse and repair between heats, and a sense of speed the N64 had no business producing. I logged more hours here than anything else on this entire list, by a wide margin.

    More
The pods, the announcer, the Boonta Eve circuit burned into memory. This is the rare tie-in that was flat out better than the thing it was based on. The best Star Wars game ever made came out of the worst Star Wars movie ever made. If KOTOR is your number one, you ranked the reviews. I ranked the games.
  2. 2

X-wings through canyons, the Expansion Pak humming, the trench-run fantasy pulled off better than any game before it or since. This is the one that made the N64 feel like a flight sim with a soul.

    More
If I were ranking by reputation, this is your number one and we would both move on. I am not ranking by reputation. It lands at two, and the one game ahead of it is going to start a fight.
  3. 3

A 16-bit run-and-gun so hard it ran grown adults off the controller. The Sarlacc, the Tusken Raiders, the Mode 7 Landspeeder stage that still looks incredible 30 years on.

    More
I have put more hours into this cartridge than both KOTOR games combined, and it is not particularly close. A SNES platformer ranking above the two RPGs this fanbase worships is going to bother people. It bothers them because it is correct.
  4. 4

The highest reviewed game in my entire collection. The Revan twist is still the best single moment these games have ever produced. I am not going to insult it.

    More
But here is what the people crowning it number one will not say out loud. It is a phenomenal story bolted to combat that was already dated the day it launched, a dice roll dressed up as a swordfight. I have finished KOTOR. I have zero urge to ever finish it again. The nine games around it I reload constantly. Reputation carried this to fourth. Nothing was carrying it higher.
  5. 5

Build your own saber. Single, dual, or staff. Pick a stance. Then cut through a room and feel every swing land.

    More
This is the best lightsaber combat ever put in a game, and I am including everything released since. Fallen Order and Survivor are great. Neither one topped a 2003 port. The only thing holding it out of the top three is a campaign that never matched the swordplay. Fifth.
  6. 6

The sequel nobody mentions. They wired Force powers into your ship, gave you Nym as a wingman, and built something tighter and stranger than the original Starfighter in every single way.

    More
It reviewed fine, sold fine, then vanished from the conversation completely. It is the most underrated Star Wars game I own and it is not close. The fact that it sits above Battlefront should tell you how serious I am.
  7. 7

The 2004 original. Split screen, a buddy on the couch, Hoth turning the living room into a warzone for a weekend.

    More
Now the honest part. Half of you defending this in the replies never actually played the 2004 version. You are remembering Battlefront II from 2005 and calling it nostalgia. Stripped of the sequel's reputation, the original is shallow and repeats itself fast. Seventh, and lucky to be on the list at all.
  8. 8
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II (Xbox) Post

Obsidian took the first game and pointed it somewhere darker and smarter. Kreia is the best written character in either KOTOR, full stop, and the game has more interesting things to say about the Force than the entire prequel trilogy.

    More
Then it shipped with the back half gutted. You need a fan mod just to see the ending the writers actually wrote. The crowd calling this the better KOTOR is grading an unfinished game on a curve. Brilliant and broken still loses to merely great.
  9. 9

Launch-window Xbox, built to prove the hardware could fly. Squadrons over Naboo, capital ships filling the screen, the exact kind of thing that sold the console off a Circuit City demo kiosk.

    More
Here is the problem. I remember precisely how it looked and almost nothing about how it played. A game I recall as a screensaver does not climb any higher. Ninth, and ninth is generous.
  10. 10

This is the one where you took down AT-ATs with a tow cable, on a console that punished you for blinking. The Dagobah swamp alone ended more rentals than it ever finished.

    More
It is rough. It is unfair in the exact way only late-80s licensed games knew how to be. And it still made the list over Demolition, Lightsaber Duels, and half a dozen others I own. The bottom of this list clears a higher bar than the top of most people's.
Opening and closing posts
How the thread opened
Every Star Wars top 10 you have ever read starts with KOTOR at number one. Every one of them is wrong. I own 17 Star Wars games. Cartridge and disc, NES through Switch, all of it on the shelf behind me. I didn't read about these games. I played them, beat them, and went back to the ones worth going back to. That last part is the entire list. I ranked these by how many times I actually reloaded them, not by what a magazine scored them in 2003. So the best reviewed Star Wars game I own finished fourth. The game most people would crown number one finished second. And the one sitting at the top came out of the movie everybody loves to hate. Worst to first. If your number one is KOTOR, this is going to bother you.
How it closed Post
The full list, worst to first: 10. The Empire Strikes Back 9. Starfighter: Special Edition 8. Knights of the Old Republic II 7. Battlefront 6. Jedi Starfighter 5. Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy 4. Knights of the Old Republic 3. Super Star Wars 2. Rogue Squadron 1. Episode I: Racer Every other Star Wars list ranks these by what a critic typed 20 years ago. I ranked them by how many times I actually walked to the shelf, pulled the case, and put the disc back in. That is why a 94 sits at four and a podracer sits at one. The reputation lists are the lazy ones.

Top 5 James Bond games

May 27, 2026View on X
  1. 1

    Not up for debate.

    More
Changed what console shooters could be, defined a generation of multiplayer, and still one of the biggest games in pop culture history. Nothing in the franchise has touched it in 30 years.
  2. 2

The most ambitious Bond game ever made before today.

    More
Third person, original story, Hollywood cast, Pierce Brosnan, Judi Dench, Willem Dafoe, and it delivered. Felt like playing an actual Bond film. Still the gold standard for what a licensed Bond game should be.
  3. 3

The one that came closest to capturing what made GoldenEye work.

    More
Full campaign, great multiplayer, missions that actually felt like Bond, not just a generic action game with a license slapped on it. People forget how good this one was.
  4. 4

Nobody puts this one on their list. I do.

    More
The PS1 era Bond game everyone forgot about. Solid third person shooter, legitimately fun, and it holds up better than people give it credit for.
  5. 5

Based on one of the best Bond films ever made, and it shows.

    More
Connery's voice, classic spy tradecraft, and a mission structure that actually felt like a Bond movie instead of a shooter with a Bond skin on it. Underrated entry that most people slept on.

Top 10 fighting games

August 12, 2026View on X
  1. 1

Every fighting game that came after it is working off what this one figured out.

    More
Turbo is where it finally had everything, the four bosses playable, mirror matches, and the speed setting cranked until it became a different game. I rented Street Fighter II from Blockbuster so many times it would have been cheaper for my mom to just buy it. I still know Ryu's inputs without thinking about it.
  2. 2

Everything the first one was missing.

    More
Bigger roster, better fatalities, Kitana and Mileena and Scorpion and Sub-Zero all in their prime, and secret characters half the kids at school swore they had found. This is the peak of the entire franchise and nothing since has come close.
  3. 3

There is not a bad character on the roster.

    More
Jin, Hwoarang, Eddy, Yoshimitsu, King, and a bear. Namco fit the entire arcade game onto a PlayStation disc with almost nothing lost and threw in Tekken Force and Tekken Ball on top. Best 3D fighter ever made.
  4. 4

Konami made a genuinely great fighting game and put the Turtles in it.

    More
Super meter, story mode, sprites straight off the arcade screen, and a roster deep enough to have Karai and Wingnut in it. Best licensed fighting game ever made.
  5. 5

The best looking 2D fighting game ever made and nobody can tell me otherwise.

    More
Hand drawn animation that still holds up 25 years later, a brand new roster with Alex, Dudley, and Ibuki, and parrying, where perfect timing lets you block a super and take nothing at all. Capcom rebuilt the genre from the ground up.
  6. 6

Capcom took the X-Men and gave them supers big enough to fill the whole screen.

    More
You could play as a Sentinel. Every sprite looks hand drawn off a comic page and the whole thing plays like an issue you can control.
  7. 7

Everything the arcade version promised, sitting on a cartridge in your living room.

    More
Faster, sharper, and the combos finally land the way they were meant to with the N64 buttons under your thumbs. Fulgore, Glacius, Spinal, and the best announcer in the genre.
  8. 8

Capcom threw the rulebook out for this one.

    More
You pick two fighters, tag them in and out, and launch somebody into the air and keep hitting them the whole way down. Spider-Man, Wolverine, Ryu, Chun-Li, all on one screen. Loudest, fastest, most ridiculous fun you can have with a fighting game.
  9. 9

Nothing else on the SNES looked or sounded like this.

    More
The pre-rendered fighters, the announcer screaming the combo count at you, C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER, and a soundtrack people still buy on vinyl. Rare put an arcade game on a cartridge and the whole school lost their minds over it.
  10. 10

Sega had 3D fighting figured out before anybody else did.

    More
No fireballs and no supers, just two fighters and everything riding on your spacing and your timing. Akira, Wolf, and Jacky ran the arcade for a solid year. It looked unreal in 1995 and it still moves beautifully today.

Top 10 beat 'em ups

June 30, 2026View on X
  1. 1

The best beat 'em up ever made.

    More
Throwing a Foot Soldier straight into the screen is the single most perfect moment the genre ever produced, and no game before or since has topped it. A licensed game and a home port, sitting at the top of the whole genre.
  2. 2

The best beat 'em up Sega ever made.

    More
Axel, Blaze, Max, Koshiro at the peak of his powers, a difficulty curve that never once cheats you. On almost any list this is number one. It had the misfortune of sharing a genre with the game above it.
  3. 3

Number three, and it belongs there.

    More
Haggar suplexing a Mad Gear thug carries more weight than most of the genre. I own the gutted SNES port with one player and no Guy, and it still lands this high.
  4. 4
    Batman Returns Post

The game most of you forgot was a brawler at all.

    More
Konami built a genuinely mean beat 'em up out of a movie license, and putting two thugs through a plate glass window still feels better than it should. Fourth is not a courtesy slot.
  5. 5
    Spiderman Venom: Maximum Carnage Post

Sixteen straight levels of getting swarmed, and it never once lets up.

    More
You switch between Spiderman and Venom, the difficulty is genuinely mean, and it moves faster and hits harder than any comic book brawler had a right to. Most licensed games from this era were forgettable. This one is the exception.
  6. 6

This is where Sega planted the flag.

    More
Koshiro's soundtrack in 1991 sounded like it came from a decade later, and every brawler that followed borrowed from what this game built.
  7. 7

It put an RPG inside a brawler before anyone knew they wanted one.

    More
You buy your moves, you eat to get stronger, and every enemy yells BARF when he drops. Nothing else on the NES moved like it.
  8. 8

This is where the series finally understood itself.

    More
The Cyclone Kick, the brutal back half, and a co-op mode that turns on you the second you get sloppy. It buries the original, which did not make this list at all.
  9. 9

The better Golden Axe, and I will not pretend otherwise.

    More
Cleaner combat, tighter levels, and I still kick the little thieves to steal their potions every time. The first game gets the credit and this one earns it.
  10. 10

This is what Genesis owners got instead of Turtles in Time, and Konami did not mail it in.

    More
It is shorter and meaner than people remember, and I would still rather replay it than most of what came after.

Top 10 80s and 90s arcade games

December 8, 2025View on X
  1. 1

The GOAT. If you rank this game lower than #1, you were a solo player with no friends.

  2. 2
The Simpsons Arcade Game (1991) Post

The absolute peak of licensed, four-player chaos. Worth every single quarter.

  3. 3

The game that invented the combo system and defined the character design, music, and art style for every fighting game that followed.

  4. 4
    Mortal Kombat 2 (1993) Post

The digitized gorefest that directly sparked the U.S. Congressional hearings which led to the creation of the ESRB.

  5. 5
    NBA Jam (1993) Post

The most iconic basketball video game ever made. This is where you got *BOOM SHAKALAKA* from.

  6. 6
    NFL Blitz (1997) Post

The only football game that explicitly included a late-hit button purely to encourage and reward spectacular post-whistle wrestling moves.

  7. 7
    Pac-Man (1980) Post

The most famous machine ever built, yet its gameplay is utterly simple.

  8. 8
    Daytona USA (1994) Post

The 3D racing masterpiece that showed off Sega’s Model 2 board, living on thanks to its infectious, sing-along soundtrack ("Let's Go Away") and force-feedback steering.

  9. 9
    Area 51 (1995) Post

The dual-gun shooter that capitalized on the 90s conspiracy craze, selling over 20,000 units and hiding the Kronn Hunter Mode for dedicated players.

  10. 10
Star Wars Trilogy Arcade (1998) Post

Pure fan service with motion-controlled lightsaber duels. It was the peak of late 90s arcade spectacle and immersive experience.

Top 10 video game trilogies

August 4, 2026View on X
  1. 1
    Super Mario Bros. 1-3 Post

The controls still feel right forty years later.

    More
Pick one up cold and you know what to do in about four seconds. Everything else on this list I'd have to explain to somebody first. Not these three.
  2. 2
    Halo CE / 2 / 3 Post

Four controllers, one TV, somebody's basement.

    More
Then Halo 2 put those same four people online and Halo 3 is where everybody finished it. Six years of your life ran alongside these three games. That's why people won't let go of them.
  3. 3
Batman Arkham Asylum / City / Knight Post

The Scarecrow section fakes a system crash. The screen glitches and the intro replays with Joker in Batman's place. People thought their disc was ruined.

    More
Freeflow combat started here and every superhero game since has copied it. Knight included, no matter what people decided about the Batmobile in 2015.
  4. 4
    Sonic 1-3 Post

Sonic 1 is the reason people walked out of the store with a Genesis instead of a SNES.

    More
Sonic 2 added the spin dash and Tails. Sonic 3 put a save battery in a platformer cart. Sonic 3 is the best of the three and the series has never gotten close since.
  5. 5
    Metal Gear Solid 1-3 Post

Psycho Mantis reads your memory card and tells you what else you've been playing. You beat him by moving the controller to port two.

    More
MGS3 drops you in a jungle with a knife and lets you starve. Best three-game run of the PlayStation era, and it's fifth.
  6. 6
    Syphon Filter 1-3 Post

The taser. Hold the button and the guy screams, smokes, then catches fire. The camera swings around behind him so you have to watch.

    More
Everyone who played this remembers doing it on purpose. Three games in three years. Then Sony sat on it for two decades and spent that money on Concord instead.
  7. 7
    Mortal Kombat 1-3 Post

Midway digitized real actors while everyone else drew sprites, then put fatalities on top and got Congress involved.

    More
The ESRB exists because of this. MK3 is the weakest of the three and the one everybody names as their favorite.
  8. 8
    Gran Turismo 1-3 Post

It made you pass a license test before it would let you race. Nobody would ship that today.

    More
Every sim racer since is running off GT3 and pretending otherwise.
  9. 9
Desert Strike / Jungle Strike / Urban Strike Post

    Three games in four years.

    More
Isometric helicopter combat with fuel gauges and hostages and no map holding your hand. EA has never made anything with this much personality since.
  10. 10
    Extreme-G / Extreme-G 2 / XGIII Post

Acclaim got an N64 running at 300mph. The screen turned to streaks and the framerate held.

    More
Then they put weapons on the bikes. Two on the N64, one on the GameCube, and it got faster every time.

Top 10 Sega games

June 3, 2026View on X
  1. 1

The best game Sega ever made. Not Sonic 3. Not Sonic & Knuckles. The second one.

    More
Chemical Plant Zone. The spin dash. Speed that actually felt like speed in 1992. This is the game that made Nintendo sweat. Everything Sega built after was chasing this high.
  2. 2

A game about finding sailors and working forklift shifts, and it quietly rewrote the rulebook.

    More
Open worlds, QTEs, day/night cycles, NPCs with real schedules. Shenmue invented half of what your favorite modern games take credit for. Sega bet the company on it. They were right, and it still cost them everything.
  3. 3

The fighting game the purists pretend they remember while they replay Street Fighter.

    More
No fireballs. No gimmicks. Just spacing, frames, and footsies before anyone had the words for it. The Saturn's entire reason to exist.
  4. 4

Put a sports game in your top 5 of anything and watch people lose it. Doing it anyway.

    More
NFL 2K played better than Madden in 1999, and the gap only widened from there. Sega built the best football engine of its era, and then EA bought an exclusive NFL license and wiped the whole series off the board. We never got it back.
  5. 5
    Crazy Taxi Post

A perfect arcade game. Not a good one. Perfect.

    More
Grab fares, beat the clock, learn the city, chase a score that never ends. Not an ounce of fat on it. Nobody has improved the formula in 25 years because there was nothing left to improve.
  6. 6

Yes. Below Sonic 2. I meant it.

    More
Bigger, prettier, more ideas, the save system, the Knuckles setup. All of it real. But it traded the tightness of 2 for ambition, and tightness is the thing that made Sonic, Sonic. Still a top 10 Sega game without breaking a sweat.
  7. 7

The best arcade racer most people never touched.

    More
Surface physics that actually meant something. Gravel, tarmac, snow, each one handled different back when "realistic driving" was still a marketing lie everywhere else. Daytona gets the glory. This one earned it.
  8. 8

Here is where I lose some of you.

    More
Fifteen years of people swearing Sonic could not work in 3D, and then Frontiers just did it. Open zones, real momentum, combat that finally felt designed instead of bolted on. It is not the safe pick. It is my pick. The first 3D Sonic that earned the speed.
  9. 9

A free holiday demo better than most full games Sega shipped afterward.

    More
Flying, looping, scoring, dreaming. NiGHTS understood flow as a design idea before the industry had a name for it. The fact that I'm ranking the Christmas version tells you everything about how good that engine was.
  10. 10

Where all of it started. The pack-in that turned a struggling hardware company into Nintendo's only real threat.

    More
Green Hill Zone is still the most recognizable level in the medium. The loops, the speed, the attitude, the entire personality of 90s Sega lives in this one cartridge. It lands at 10 because the sequel did everything here better. That is not an insult. That is a dynasty.

That's the 10. Sixty-six years of a company that played it loud and fast and built a catalog half this industry is still borrowing from. Every game on this list still earns its spot on my shelf, and most of them still earn a play. That is the only test that counts. Happy birthday, Sega!

Top 10 Capcom games

May 30, 2026View on X
  1. 1

A fully 3D action adventure in 1997 that still controls better than games released three console generations later.

    More
Kattelox Island, the lock on shooting, Roll and the Caskets, a world with more charm than entire studios manage today. Capcom built something genuinely special here and then walked away from it for good. Putting it above Street Fighter II is the most correct thing I will post all year.
  2. 2

The most important fighting game ever made. Full stop.

    More
It turned the SNES into a must own machine, conjured the entire competitive fighting scene out of thin air, and set the template every fighter still follows three decades later. And it is still only number two on this list.
  3. 3

A sequel that went bigger in every direction and got buried for the effort.

    More
More world, deeper systems, and an ending that stranded the hero on the moon waiting for a sequel Capcom killed in 2011. One of the great abandoned franchises in this company's history, and the second best thing they ever pressed onto a disc.
  4. 4

Resident Evil with a katana, dropped into feudal Japan.

    More
Fixed cameras, deliberate combat, soul absorption through the Oni Gauntlet, and a Sengoku setting nobody else had the nerve to touch. It became Capcom's first million seller on the PS2 for a reason. People forgot it existed within a single generation, and that is a crime.
  5. 5
Disney's Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers (NES) Post

Drop the cartoon nostalgia for a second and just look at the design.

    More
Pick up a box, throw it, stack it, real two player co op that actually worked on the NES. Tight controls, smart level layouts, zero filler. Capcom's Disney run on the NES is the most underrated stretch in their entire catalog, and this one is better built than half the fighters on this list.
  6. 6

Capcom got the X-Men license in 1994 and built a side scrolling brawler that actually took it seriously.

    More
You pick from five X-Men, each with their own moves and a charged mutant power, and you cut through Genosha against the Sentinels and Magneto. This is the game that proved Capcom understood Marvel years before the crossover fighters ever showed up. The peak of the cartridge era for this series.
  7. 7

The New Challengers, and the first time the roster ever grew.

    More
Cammy, Fei Long, Dee Jay and T. Hawk walked in and instantly became mains for a whole generation of kids on the carpet. This was the definitive home version of the most important fighting roster ever assembled, and the cartridge era never topped it.
  8. 8

Capcom's roster against Marvel's, two on two, with a giant Apocalypse as the final boss.

    More
It was loud, it was fast, and it was the first time you could put Wolverine and Ryu on the same screen at home. Every fighting game crossover people love today started right here.
  9. 9

The Street Fighter that went 3D before anyone was ready for it. It launched alongside the PS2 in 2000 and most fans wrote it off for ditching the classic look.

    More
It also let you fight tag team matches, something the main series would not seriously touch for years. The black sheep of the family, and I will still defend it.
  10. 10

Yes, the Domino's Pizza mascot got his own Capcom platformer in 1990, and yes, it rules.

    More
You yo-yo your way across New York, and every boss fight ends in a pizza eating showdown that is somehow more tense than it has any right to be. Sharp controls, a brilliant hook, and the kind of weird that only the NES era could produce. This is the exact deep cut a real collection should be proud of.

Top 10 Acclaim games by cultural impact

July 15, 2026View on X
  1. 1
Mortal Kombat (SNES / Genesis) Post

Acclaim is the reason the ESRB exists.

    More
December 1993, Lieberman and Kohl hold Senate hearings. Not because of an arcade cabinet. Because this game was now in living rooms, and Acclaim is the company that put it there. Nintendo pulled the blood. Sega left it in behind a code. Genesis outsold SNES on this game and the entire industry read the receipt. Every rating on every box you have ever bought traces back to a home port Acclaim published. No other company on this list caused federal legislation. Not Konami. Not Capcom. Not Nintendo.
  2. 2

"Boomshakalaka" left the video game and entered the English language.

    More
That is the rarest thing on this list by a mile. People who have never held a controller say "he's on fire." Broadcasters say it on live TV. It escaped the medium completely. Midway built it. Acclaim put it in ten million houses.
  3. 3

A red cartridge. That is the whole pitch and it worked.

    More
1994 comics were a marketing machine running at full tilt. Fourteen part crossover, chromium covers, Venom on every rack, and Acclaim shipped it in a cart color nobody else was using. Thirty years later people who never finished it still remember holding it. Ask a guy who sold his collection in 2003 what color Maximum Carnage was. He knows.
  4. 4

Acclaim took a dead Valiant comic property nobody was asking about and turned Turok into a household name.

    More
That almost never happens. Licenses run one direction, comic to game, and the game is always the lesser thing. Acclaim reversed it. Ask anyone under 45 what Turok is and they say N64. They do not say comics. The adaptation ate the original. And Iguana was in-house, so this one is theirs top to bottom.
  5. 5

Hulkamania at its absolute peak, Saturday mornings, Slim Jims, the action figures, the whole machine running at full speed.

    More
Acclaim held the license during the biggest mainstream wrestling window this country has ever had. The game is six wrestlers and a health bar. Nobody cared. You were Hogan in your living room and that was the entire product.
  6. 6

The first Simpsons game, dropped at the exact peak of Simpsons mania.

    More
Butterfinger ads, "Do the Bartman" on the radio, Bart shirts getting banned from schools. The game is rough and it does not matter even slightly. This cart sold on a haircut. That is cultural gravity you cannot design, you can only be standing in the right place when it hits.
  7. 7

The best and biggest movie of not only 1991, but of all time, and Acclaim carpet bombed it. NES, Game Boy, SNES, arcade, all of it.

    More
This is the licensing model that defined the era and Acclaim ran it harder than anyone alive. Buy the license, ship on every platform that exists, put the poster on the box, move a million units before a single review lands. Everybody complains about that model now. Everybody bought it then.
  8. 8

Before Streets of Rage, before Turtles in Time, this is what a beat em up meant in a living room.

    More
Two players, one couch, one guy elbowing the other guy off a ledge on purpose. The entire genre's living room grammar starts here. Technos built it. Acclaim put it in the house.
  9. 9

    Influence is not always positive.

    More
Acclaim bought LJN in 1990 and kept putting that rainbow on licensed games for five more years. Beetlejuice was one of the first ones out the door under Acclaim, and it played like every joke people make about the logo. Thirty five years later the rainbow is still an insult. That is influence.
  10. 10

The D.A.R.E. era pressed into a cartridge.

    More
1988, Nancy Reagan on every TV, "Just Say No" on every classroom wall, and Williams Electronics builds an arcade game where you play a cop who shoots drug dealers and drives over the bodies. Acclaim brought it into the house. Bad port of a game that was already mean. But it is a perfect fossil. You cannot explain 1990 to someone without explaining that a kid could rent this.

One publisher. A Senate hearing, a word that outlived the console it came from, a comic property saved by its own adaptation, and a logo that turned into an insult. Acclaim did more to the culture in fifteen years than most publishers manage in forty.

Best 5 and worst 5 90s game and movie adaptations

January 27, 2026View on X

The best 5

  1. 1

    The gold standard.

    More
Rare didn't just adapt a Bond movie; they invented the modern console shooter. Four-player split-screen, proximity mines, and the Facility. It was arguably better than the film itself.
  2. 2

    A true beat-'em-up masterpiece.

    More
Konami was untouchable in this era. Huge sprites, satisfying combat, and a Danny Elfman soundtrack that pushed the sound chip to the limit. This is how you respect a license.
  3. 3
    Mortal Kombat (1995 Movie) Post

The only time Hollywood got it right in the 90s.

    More
It wasn't winning Oscars, but it respected the source material. The fights had weight. The casting was solid. And that techno theme song is still a banger.
  4. 4
    Aladdin (Genesis) Post

Disney animators worked directly on the sprites, and it showed.

    More
It looked like a playable cartoon. The SNES version was decent, but the Genesis version had the sword and the speed. A visual benchmark for 16-bit gaming.
  5. 5
Super Mario Bros. (1993 Movie) Post

    Hear me out.

    More
It had nothing to do with the game. It was a cyberpunk fever dream. Dennis Hopper was King Koopa. The Goombas were 7 feet tall. But it was bold, dark, and unforgettable. A true cult classic that took big risks. I unironically love it.

The worst 5, 1 is the worst

  1. 5
    Batman Forever (SNES/Genesis) Post

Acclaim tried to use the Mortal Kombat engine for a Batman platformer.

    More
The result? Stiff controls, digitized graphics that looked muddy, and a grappling hook that barely worked. A sluggish mess compared to Returns.
  2. 4
    Double Dragon (1994 Movie) Post

They took a gritty street brawler and turned it into a weird, post-apocalyptic comedy.

    More
Scott Wolf and Mark Dacascos deserved better. It ignored everything that made the game cool - specifically the energy - and replaced it with bad jokes.
  3. 3
    Street Fighter (1994 Movie) Post

Raul Julia carried this entire movie on his back.

    More
As an action movie? It's hilarious camp. As an adaptation of Street Fighter? It was a disaster. Ryu and Ken were side characters in their own story.
  4. 2
Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game Post

The snake eating its own tail.

    More
A game based on a movie that was based on a game. They used digitized actors from the film to play the characters. It played terribly and looked worse. 1995 was a lawless time.
  5. 1

The only thing worse than the Bat-nipples was the tank controls.

    More
Acclaim tried to make a glorious open-world Gotham, but the technology wasn't there. It was confusing, ugly, and unplayable. It killed the franchise in gaming just as hard as the movie killed it in theaters.

How it closed Post
I know putting the Super Mario Bros. movie in the Top 5 is controversial. I stand by it. It wasn't accurate, but it was fun. That sums up the 90s. Even the "bad" stuff had personality and took massive risks. It was the best era to be a gamer.

Consoles

Top 10 consoles of all time

May 14, 2026View on X
  1. 1

The Dreamcast was years ahead of its time.

    More
It brought pixel perfect arcade ports home when everyone else was still struggling with low-poly 3D. It died too soon, but for those who value innovation and pure arcade energy over sales figures, it remains the greatest console of all time.
  2. 2

The Satin Silver Slim is the best-selling console for a reason.

    More
The library is so deep you could spend a lifetime playing it and still find hidden gems. It’s almost perfect, but it’s still the runner-up to the ultimate cult classic.
  3. 3

The 360 Slim is the greatest Western console ever built.

    More
It perfected the online experience before it became a bloated, microtransaction filled mess. The library is massive, and the controller is still the gold standard for ergonomics.
  4. 4

Sony didn't just enter the market; they took it over.

    More
The move to CD-ROM changed everything for localized RPGs and cinematic action. If you didn't experience the transition from 2D to 3D on this hardware, you missed the most exciting time in gaming history.
  5. 5

The 16-bit era was the pinnacle of 2D art.

    More
The SNES took everything the NES started and perfected it. It’s a near perfect system with a library that has zero "filler," but it lacks the sheer variety of the top four.
  6. 6

The original Xbox was a tank.

    More
It brought PC-level power to the living room and changed how we viewed internal storage. It’s the system that proved Microsoft belonged in the space, provided you had the shelf space for it.
  7. 7

The GameCube is a masterclass in industrial design.

    More
It didn't care about being a DVD player like its competitors; it was built to be a dedicated gaming machine. The mini discs are peak physical media, and the library is high density quality.
  8. 8

The gray box that saved the industry. It’s the standard for pure, unfiltered gameplay.

    More
Every modern "masterpiece" is just standing on the shoulders of the NES, but the hardware's finicky nature keeps it from ranking higher.
  9. 9

The SNES had the colors, but the Genesis had the attitude and the "Blast Processing."

    More
It brought arcade-perfect ports into the living room and proved that gaming didn't have to be "family-friendly" to be legendary.
  10. 10

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug, but the library is thin once you get past the first-party titans.

    More
It’s a revolutionary machine, but the blurry textures and the controller design keep it at the bottom of the elite tier.

How the thread opened
Everyone has a "Top 10 Consoles" list, but most people just copy/paste sales figures from a Wikipedia entry. I’m ranking these based on hardware design, physical library depth, and the "finished at launch" factor. If you think a console needs 4K or "live service" updates to be elite, this list isn't for you. Top 10 Consoles of all time🧵⤵️
How it closed Post
Modern consoles feel like specialized PCs that require a 50GB patch before you can even see the title screen. These ten machines represent an era where you bought a game, put it in the tray, and it just worked. If you disagree, you’re likely just looking at a spreadsheet of sales numbers instead of the hardware on the shelf.

New series starting today! Best and worst game I own from every year, one year a day, beginning with 1985. Best: Super Mario Bros. (NES) Worst: Pinball (NES) Super Mario Bros. is the easy one and it's still the right one. Everything after it was built out of pieces from this game. Pinball is one table, one ball, no ramps, no multiball. You bump it around and then it drains. The bonus stage where Mario catches a girl on a trampoline is the most interesting thing in the cart, and it's a minigame. What are your picks for 1985?

Best and Worst Games I own: 1987 Skipping 1986 since the only game from that year I have is Popeye, and I already gave that one a positive review. Best: The Legend of Zelda (NES) Worst: Ikari Warriors (NES) Zelda doesn't explain anything to you. Sword, field, go. Nobody had a map, everybody had a theory, and most of them were wrong. Ikari Warriors is what happens when an arcade game with a rotary stick gets put on a d-pad. One hit and you're done. Without the continue code I don't think anyone was seeing the end of it. What's your best and worst of 1987?

Best and Worst Games I own: 1988 Best: Contra (NES) Worst: Rambo (NES) Super Mario Bros. 2 and Zelda II both came out in 1988 and neither one is the pick. Thirty seconds into the first stage of Contra you know exactly how good you are. Rambo is a movie about a guy with a machine gun turned into a game where you spend most of your time lost and talking to people. What's your best and worst for 1988?

WORSTFriday the 13th (NES)

The full post
Best and Worst Games I own: 1989 Best: Tetris (NES) Worst: Friday the 13th (NES) I own several games from 1989 that could compete for the best, Mega Man 2 included, and Tetris still beats all of them. It's the one game from that year people who don't play games can sit down and play right now. Friday the 13th puts you on the same brown trail between the same six cabins, throwing rocks at wolves and waiting on Jason. The game has little to do with the movie. What are your best and worst picks for 1989?

WORSTMad Max (NES)

The full post
Best and Worst Games I own: 1990 Best: Batman The Video Game (NES) Worst: Mad Max (NES) Super Mario Bros. 3 came out in 1990 and I've already said plenty of times that it's the greatest game ever made, so I'm handing the 1990 crown over to a different game that came out right about the same time SMB3 did: Batman The Video Game. Sunsoft didn't phone this one in the way most licensed games got phoned in. The wall jump is the whole game and it still feels right. The soundtrack is one of the best on the NES. Mad Max is a top down driving game with the worst driving controls of all time. You hunt for gas and ammo in an empty desert and there's no clear objective. I don't remember how I ended up with this one when I was a kid. What are your best and worst picks for 1990?

Best and Worst Games I own: 1991 Best: Super Mario World (SNES) Worst: Bill & Ted's Excellent Video Game Adventure (NES) Sonic the Hedgehog and Streets of Rage both came out this year. Unfortunately for them, Super Mario World also came out this year. This is the game that came with our SNES, and the one my mom and I spent the most time playing together. 35 years later and this game still has infinite replayability. Bill & Ted has some of the most annoying music ever put in a game, and that alone is enough to make it the worst thing I own from 1991. The rest of the game doesn't help it. What are your best and worst picks for 1991?

Best and Worst Games I own: 1992 Best: Street Fighter II (SNES) Worst: The Great Waldo Search (NES) Hardest pick I've had to make in this series. Super Mario Kart, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Super Star Wars and Golden Axe II all came out in 1992. Street Fighter II still beats every one of them. The Great Waldo Search is a book you already owned sold to you again for fifty dollars. You drag a magnifying glass across a still picture on a timer, four times, and that's the game. What are your best and worst picks for 1992?

WORSTMario is Missing! (SNES)

The full post
Best and Worst Games I own: 1993 Best: Street Fighter II Turbo (SNES) Worst: Mario is Missing! (SNES) Not only is Turbo the best Street Fighter ever made, it's also the best fighting game ever made. This is the version where Capcom put it all together on the SNES. You finally got playable bosses and mirror matches at home, and the speed setting turned it into a different game than the one that came out the year before. 1993 is one of the best years in gaming history. Mortal Kombat, Secret of Mana, Star Fox, Jungle Strike all came out that year and Street Fighter II Turbo is better than all of them. One of the worst games not only of 1993, but of all time, is Mario is Missing! You walk around as Luigi asking people geography questions. It has Mario's name on it but this is in no way an actual Mario game. Nintendo put their name on it too, and what you actually got was a school assignment somebody charged full price for. What are your best and worst picks for 1993?

WORSTRise of the Robots (SNES)

The full post
Best and Worst Games I own: 1994 Best: Spider-Man & Venom: Maximum Carnage (SNES) Worst: Rise of the Robots (SNES) 1994 was a stacked year for games. Quality title after quality title came out that year. Super Street Fighter II, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Mortal Kombat II, Earthworm Jim and Final Fantasy III all came out in 1994. My mom rented Maximum Carnage from Blockbuster for me in 1994. I loved it. I also couldn't beat it, and it stayed that way until I played the Marvel MaXimum Collection on Xbox recently and finally got through it. It sits at No. 5 on my top 10 beat em ups and No. 6 on my top 10 superhero games. Rise of the Robots had one of the biggest marketing campaigns of the 90s only for it to be a dud of a game. I bought this game recently and it's really not a good game at all. The controls are terrible and the game is just flat out boring. The only bright spot of this game is Brian May from Queen did the music. What are your best and worst picks for 1994?

WORSTBatman Forever (SNES)

The full post
Best and Worst Games I own: 1995 Best: Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (SNES) Worst: Batman Forever (SNES) Yoshi's Island is one of my all-time favorite games and the first game I ever finished on my own as a kid. The gameplay and the artwork are what make this game so great. The game is a perfect game. 1995 itself was packed with incredible games: Killer Instinct Mortal Kombat 3 Virtua Fighter 2 NBA Jam TE Separation Anxiety Batman & Robin Batman Forever showed up three months after the movie and Acclaim built it with digitized actors that made it look like a Mortal Kombat ripoff turned into a side scroller. It was weird and out of place. The gameplay was dreadfully bad. Batman Forever is one of my favorite movies and to me, it's the ultimate 90s movie. The marketing for it was insane, it was everywhere, and I still have one of the frosted glass mugs from McDonald's. Now imagine how disappointed I was with this being the game we got. What a huge letdown. What are your best and worst picks for 1995?

WORSTNBA Jam Extreme (PlayStation)

The full post
Best and Worst Games I own: 1996 Best: Wave Race 64 (Nintendo 64) Worst: NBA Jam Extreme (PlayStation) Super Mario 64 released as a launch title for the N64 and it's the game most people would pick as the best for 1996. I've said multiple times on here where I stand: Mario 64 is an important piece in gaming history. It hasn't aged well. The constant battle with the camera ruins the game. Wave Race on the other hand, this is what a perfect game looks like and one that has infinite replay value, even 30 years after its release. The game physics are really something else for 1996. The water moves differently every time you run a course, so you aren't memorizing turns the way you do in almost every racing game made since. 1996 was deep too. Tomb Raider, Twisted Metal 2, Pilotwings 64, Killer Instinct Gold all came out that year. NBA Jam Extreme wasn't a terrible game, but what Acclaim did with it was a downgrade from the previous entries in the series. Replacing Tim Kitzrow with Marv Albert as the announcer was a terrible move. What are your picks for 1996?

WORSTMadden Football 64 (Nintendo 64)

The full post
Best and Worst Games I own: 1997 Best: GoldenEye 007 (Nintendo 64) Worst: Madden Football 64 (Nintendo 64) 1997 is one of the most iconic years in video game history and easily the best year of the 90s. Star Fox 64, Diddy Kong Racing, Mario Kart 64, Extreme-G and Final Fantasy VII all released in 1997. GoldenEye was an event every weekend. Kids in our neighborhood would come over and we'd spend hours on four player multiplayer. I remember renting Madden 64 from Blockbuster and being so confused. It didn't have the NFL license that year because Acclaim had it locked up for the N64 that season, so EA shipped a Madden game with no team names, no logos and no team colors. The Pro Bowl is called the Madden Bowl in it. The Super Bowl is the EAS Championship. What are your picks for 1997?

Best and Worst Games I own: 1998 Best: Metal Gear Solid (PlayStation) Worst: Batman & Robin (PlayStation) 1998 is the year people point at when they argue gaming peaked, usually meaning Ocarina of Time. I'd take Metal Gear Solid over it. Batman & Robin was originally supposed to release alongside the movie in 1997 but the game was nowhere near completion, so it got delayed a year. The delay didn't help as this game still turned out bad. What are your picks for 1998?

Best and Worst Games I own: 1999 Best: Star Wars Episode I: Racer (Nintendo 64) Worst: Superman: The New Superman Adventures (Nintendo 64) 1999 had Donkey Kong 64, Syphon Filter, Final Fantasy VIII, Gran Turismo 2, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter and WWF WrestleMania 2000. Star Wars Episode I: Racer gets the spot over all of them. My brother borrowed this one from a friend of his. I took it over and played it nonstop until the kid wanted it back. It's the best Star Wars game ever made, third on my all time N64 games list ahead of Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time. Superman 64 is the worst game ever made. Nothing further needs to be said about it. Just an awful game. What are you picks for 1999?

Best and Worst Games I own: 2000 Best: Perfect Dark (Nintendo 64) Worst: Q*bert (Game Boy Color) 2000 had Majora's Mask, WWF No Mercy, Syphon Filter 2, Mega Man Legends 2, Shenmue, Crazy Taxi and Street Fighter III: Double Impact. Perfect Dark gets the spot over all of them. It's the game GoldenEye should have been, second on my all time Nintendo 64 list right behind Wave Race 64. Q*bert on the Game Boy Color is the arcade game squeezed onto a screen too small for it. Half the time you can't tell which way you're about to jump until you've already gone off the edge of the pyramid. What are your picks for 2000?

NES tier list

The full post
I decided to make a tier ranking based on the NES games I own. 112 unique titles. This one took a long time to do. There's so many original Nintendo games to sort through. Most of the movie tie-in games ended up in the D and F tiers. These games were not good and I think everyone here would agree with that. I know some of you will nitpick at my S tier, which is fine. I stand by it, and yes, The Legend of Zelda is A tier. Zelda II is S tier. Some of these game images are hard to see, so I'll have each tier in the replies.

I present to you all 68 Super Nintendo games I own, sorted in tiers. This is based only on what I own. My nostalgic bias towards some of these games may or may not have played a role in picking the tiers.😂 Sorry in advance to the Final Fantasy fanbase, but these aren't S-tier games.

I made a tier list for all 63 PlayStation 1 games I own. This one was actually really hard to do. There's 1300 games on the PS1 and trying to find the 63 I own was pretty tedious work.😂 Like my N64 rankings, my PS1 rankings will probably anger a few people. Spoiler alert: Final Fantasy 7, 8, and 9 are all A-tier. Sorry.🤷‍♂️

Super Mario Bros. 3 vs. Super Mario World

August 14, 2026View on X

MY PICKSuper Mario Bros. 3

Both games come with a lot of great memories, but I still think 3 is the better game.
The full post
Super Mario Bros. 3 or Super Mario World? My parents got me Mario 3 for my birthday in 1990. My mom and I played it constantly until we beat it. My dad would stay up late on weekends playing it with me too, and he's not even close to being a gamer. Super Mario World came with our SNES a few years later and my mom and I did the same thing all over again. Both games come with a lot of great memories, but I still think 3 is the better game. Which one are you taking?

The full post
Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask? I remember playing Ocarina of Time after it got released in 1998. We rented it from Blockbuster and ended up holding onto it for a full week. This game was nothing short of impressive. Link running around in a 3D open world was incredible, but eventually it got boring. A couple of years later Majora's Mask came out and I found it to be way more entertaining. Same engine, but a much darker game. The moon in this game was straight up nightmare fuel. Which Zelda game on the Nintendo 64 did you like more?

Killer Instinct vs. Primal Rage

August 25, 2026View on X

MY PICKKiller Instinct

Killer Instinct is the better game and I don't think that's up for debate.
The full post
Killer Instinct or Primal Rage? Primal Rage came out on the Super Nintendo on this day in 1995. Killer Instinct landed five days later on August 30. Killer Instinct is the better game and I don't think that's up for debate. Rare's prerendered sprites, the combo system, the soundtrack CD in the box. Primal Rage is my guilty pleasure. The reviews were rough and I'm not going to argue with any of it. Clay dinosaurs shot frame by frame, fatalities where they eat the little people cheering at the bottom of the screen. It's not a great game but it's absolutely a fun game. Which 1995 fighter did you like more?

The most overrated games are on the Overrated page.
