WHAT I'VE POSTED ABOUT IT ON X

Perfect Dark You needed the Expansion Pak to play most of it. Without one you only got a small piece of the game. The Combat Simulator lets you add computer bots to a match if you don't have three other people to play with.

Best and Worst Games I own: 2000 Best: Perfect Dark (Nintendo 64) Worst: Q*bert (Game Boy Color) 2000 had Majora's Mask, WWF No Mercy, Syphon Filter 2, Mega Man Legends 2, Shenmue, Crazy Taxi and Street Fighter III: Double Impact. Perfect Dark gets the spot over all of them. It's the game GoldenEye should have been, second on my all time Nintendo 64 list right behind Wave Race 64. Q*bert on the Game Boy Color is the arcade game squeezed onto a screen too small for it. Half the time you can't tell which way you're about to jump until you've already gone off the edge of the pyramid. What are your picks for 2000?

Honest and Unpopular Reviews No. 43 Perfect Dark (N64) There's always one major game that shows up at the end of a console's life, after everybody has already started looking at whatever is coming next. Pick the console, I'll show you the game. For the N64, that game was Perfect Dark. It released in May of 2000 and by October of that year the PlayStation 2 was in stores here and most people had stopped paying attention to the Nintendo 64. We rented Perfect Dark from Blockbuster during the summer that year. I was 16, not quite 17, and all I was doing was playing video games or shooting hoops out front. I was obsessed with sports and particularly baseball. I was playing an unhealthy amount of Major League Baseball Featuring Ken Griffey Jr. on the N64. My mom loved taking us to Blockbuster on Fridays. That was our weekly tradition. As I usually did when we got there, I went straight to the video game aisle. I saw Perfect Dark and thought "this looks interesting." We rented the game for the weekend. Rare spent three years making Perfect Dark, learning from the shortcomings of GoldenEye. Some of what they put in this game, no other console game had done. You could add bots to the multiplayer match and adjust their difficulty. There's also a mode where a second player takes over the guards and hunts you down while you're trying to finish the mission. The single player holds up better than GoldenEye's does. Joanna Dark got an actual story and the last stretch of the game puts you on an alien warship. GoldenEye is the one that gets called the greatest shooter of the era and it gets called that by people who are remembering their friends being over on a Saturday. Take the memory out of it and load both games up today and it isn't GoldenEye you keep playing. Perfect Dark is 2nd on my all time Nintendo 64 list and the greatest game Rare has ever made. I rate Perfect Dark a perfect 5 out of 5.

Perfect Dark or GoldenEye? GoldenEye is the one everybody remembers, and it earned that. It has a permanent spot in 90s pop culture history. Kids in my neighborhood would come over on a Saturday and we'd spend hours on four player multiplayer. Perfect Dark came out 3 years later and it quickly became the better game. Who's taking GoldenEye over Perfect Dark?
