Paperboy (NES)
I have a real love/hate relationship with this game.
It's one of the most nostalgic games I own and I rage quit almost every time I play it.
We never owned it growing up. I only got to play it at a friend's house, or when he brought it over. In the late 80s I'd stay the night over there and we'd go back and forth between Paperboy and Adventure Island while his parents ordered Domino's. After my friend and I both got tired of playing, we would fall asleep out in the living room watching Nick at Nite.
Neither of us ever beat Paperboy.
You ride your bike down one street throwing papers at the houses that subscribed. The ones that didn't you can skip, or you can put a paper through their window for points.
Finish the street and you get the obstacle course.
There's a dog, a lawnmower, a skateboarder, a tire that rolls out of a driveway, a tornado, and the Grim Reaper, all on the same block. The reflexes it takes to get through that and still land a paper on a porch is what makes the game.
The game is about as simple as it gets but still 5/5 difficulty.
Paperboy should be brought back but nobody will make it because it can't be sold for $70 with a season pass attached to it, and that's the whole problem with modern gaming.
I rate Paperboy a 4.5 out of 5.
