Mega Man Legends

ON MY LISTS

WHAT I'VE POSTED ABOUT IT ON X

Impossible matchups No. 12 Mega Man Legends vs. Gran Turismo Both came out on the PlayStation in North America in 1998, and neither one has anything in common with the other except that. The greatest Mega Man game ever made vs. the greatest racing game ever made. Which one was the better PlayStation game?

Mega Man Legends. I came to PlayStation late. In 2001 I cashed my first paycheck from KFC and rode my bike down to the Kmart at the end of the street and bought a PS1 for $100. The games were pretty cheap too. I think at most they were 20 bucks. I ended up buying five games. Mega Man Legends Final Fantasy VII Tomorrow Never Dies Ready 2 Rumble Boxing Gran Turismo Mega Man Legends is what I played first. This turned out to be the greatest Mega Man game ever made. They took him out of the 2D world and threw him into a huge 3D open world. No more pick a stage, beat the boss, take the weapon, do it again. A town with people in it, jobs to take, ruins to dig through. Nothing else in the series had done that. It's easily the best Mega Man game ever made along with being one of the greatest PlayStation games ever made.

Honest and Unpopular Reviews No. 20 Mega Man Legends (PS1) I came to PlayStation late. In 2001 I cashed my first paycheck from KFC and rode my bike down to Kmart and bought a PS1. Mega Man Legends came home with me that day. Every Mega Man before it ran the same play. Pick a stage, beat the boss, take the weapon, do it eight more times. Six games on the NES alone and that never changed once. Legends threw all of it out and put Mega Man in an open world. You crash land on Kattelox Island and make your way to the town, where people talk to you and react to what you do. You take jobs. You dig through the ruins for refractors, and that money is what Roll uses to build your weapons. And every time you get comfortable, the Bonnes show up in a giant machine. Nothing else in 1998 was doing this, and no Mega Man game before or since has come close to it. Twenty five years later it's still one of the best games I've ever played. Unfortunately, it has not aged well. The camera fights you and that's a real problem. Capcom could have fixed it in a remaster at any point in the last two decades and instead they announced Legends 3, had fans design characters for it in their own dev room, and then cancelled it on them. That's the last thing they ever did with this series. Shame on Capcom. I rate Mega Man Legends a 4.5 out of 5.
