Zelda: Majora's Mask vs. Final Fantasy IX
Both came out in 2000, and neither one has anything in common with the other except that.

Honest and Unpopular Reviews No. 39
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (N64)
Nintendo released the trailer today for the Ocarina of Time remake. I already preordered the 40th Anniversary Zelda Switch 2 console it's coming on.
I'm just going to flat out say it:
Majora's Mask is the better game and it's the one that should be getting the remake.
It came out in 2000 on the same N64, with a lot of the same models and animations Ocarina used, because the team only had about a year to put it together.
The world is ending in three days. Most of the people in that town don't act like it until the last day.
Everybody knows the moon, even people who never played it. It has a face on it that is genuinely disturbing and it's a little lower every time you look up.
It's seriously nightmare fuel.
That's what I want to see with the graphics the Ocarina remake is using. Nightmare fuel x1000.
The timer is why a lot of people didn't like it. You get three in-game days, and when they run out the world resets to the first morning.
Whatever rupees you're carrying are gone, unless you put them in the bank, and whatever you were in the middle of you're doing again.
Nobody in that town remembers you either.
You also spend most of the game as dead people. The Goron whose mask you wear is already dead when you find him, the Zora too.
NINTENDO MADE THIS GAME FOR CHILDREN.
My brother and I ran through the campaign together when this game came out. He's eight years younger than me and the N64 is where we had a lot of gaming overlap.
He's a Zelda fanatic, he still thinks Ocarina is the better game, and I still tell him he's wrong.
I rate Majora's Mask a 4.5 out of 5.
4. Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (N64)
Same engine, darker game, and a far more entertaining one.
That moon coming down is straight up nightmare fuel and there's nothing else in the series that ever tried anything like it.
This is the better Nintendo 64 Zelda and it isn't particularly close.
Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask?
I remember playing Ocarina of Time after it got released in 1998. We rented it from Blockbuster and ended up holding onto it for a full week. This game was nothing short of impressive. Link running around in a 3D open world was incredible, but eventually it got boring.
A couple of years later Majora's Mask came out and I found it to be way more entertaining. Same engine, but a much darker game. The moon in this game was straight up nightmare fuel.
