Diddy Kong Racing

Honest and Unpopular Reviews No. 42 Diddy Kong Racing (N64) Everybody has a game from a console they owned that they somehow never got around to until years later. For me, that game is Diddy Kong Racing on the Nintendo 64. We were a Mario Kart house throughout my childhood. Going from Super Mario Kart on the SNES to Mario Kart 64 on the N64 was the obvious next step. We played it constantly and thought this game was amazing. Little did I know at the time, there were better kart style racers out there. Diddy Kong Racing came out the same year as Mario Kart 64 and I didn't play it until a few years ago. Rare went bananas with this game. They didn't just drop tracks into a menu. There's a hub world you drive around to get to them and bosses that make you beat them twice before the game lets you go anywhere. A lot of the tracks aren't run in a kart at all. Some of them you fly in a plane and some you take in a hovercraft, and none of the three handle the same way. It sits 14th on my all time N64 ranking. Mario Kart 64 sits 18th. I rate this Diddy Kong Racing a 4 out of 5.

Mario Kart 64 or Diddy Kong Racing? We owned Mario Kart 64 as kids and played it constantly. We were always team Mario in my house. I didn't get around to playing Diddy Kong Racing until a few years ago and it didn't take long to realize it was the better game. Which one did you put more hours into?
