WHAT I'VE POSTED ABOUT IT ON X

Honest and Unpopular Reviews No. 23 Mario Kart 64 (N64) This was the multiplayer game we switched to when we needed a break from GoldenEye on weekend sleepovers in the late 90s. Mario Kart 64 is a fun game. It's also a downgrade from the one before it and it isn't the best kart racer on its own system. Super Mario Kart came first and did more with less. Tighter driving, and you had to actually learn a track instead of getting bailed out. This is the game that introduced the blue shell. One item that erases whoever drove the best race. The computer players rubber band the whole way and speed up any time they're off screen. We spent a lot of nights in Battle Mode on Block Fort and Double Deck. That's where the true entertainment was. Diddy Kong Racing is easily the better kart racer on the Nintendo 64 and I don't think it's particularly close. I created a top 20 rankings list for the N64 and Mario Kart 64 places 18th in that list. I rate this game a solid 4 out of 5.

Mario Kart 64 or Diddy Kong Racing? We owned Mario Kart 64 as kids and played it constantly. We were always team Mario in my house. I didn't get around to playing Diddy Kong Racing until a few years ago and it didn't take long to realize it was the better game. Which one did you put more hours into?
