Gun

WHAT I'VE POSTED ABOUT IT ON X

Honest and Unpopular Reviews No. 28 Gun (Xbox) Every so often a game comes out five years too early and gets buried for it. Gun was one of the first games I played on my Xbox that wasn't Halo or Madden. It was a lot more violent than anything else I was playing at the time and I couldn't put it down. Neversoft, the Tony Hawk studio, built the open world western in 2005. Ride anywhere, hunt, bounty work, poker, cattle drives, and a revenge story about a guy tracking the men who killed his father. Rockstar shipped Red Dead Redemption five years later and got credit for inventing all of it. Gun did it first and did it meaner. Thomas Jane and Kris Kristofferson turned in real performances when nobody expected that from a game. It does have problems though. The campaign is too short. It can easily be finished in a single night. It also hasn't aged well. The controls are rough by any standard now, and going back to it the textures and character models look worse than I remembered. It's a real shame we never got a sequel to Gun. Despite the negatives I mentioned, it's still a fantastic game. I rate Gun a 4 out of 5.
